One of the biggest advantages of a merchant cash advance over a bank loan is the paperwork — there is very little of it. Where a bank may ask for tax returns, financial statements, business plans, and collateral documentation, an MCA file is built around one thing: your business bank statements.
Here is the complete checklist of what you will be asked for, why each document matters, and the mistakes that slow files down.
The Core Four: What Every MCA File Needs
1. A completed application. This is basic business information — legal business name, address, time in business, monthly revenue, the amount you are requesting, and the owner's name and date of birth. At Workable Funding the online application takes about 2 minutes.
2. Three to four months of business bank statements. This is the heart of the file. Underwriting reads your deposits, your average daily balance, your NSF (bounced payment) activity, and any existing funding payments to decide what your business can support. Statements must be for your business checking account — personal accounts do not qualify.
3. A government-issued photo ID. A driver's license or passport for the owner signing the application. This is used to verify identity and prevent fraud.
4. A voided business check or bank letter. This confirms the business checking account where funds will be deposited and repayments debited. If your bank does not issue checks, a bank letter on letterhead showing the account and routing numbers works.
Why Bank Statements Matter More Than Anything Else
MCA approval is driven by cash flow, not collateral. Underwriters are reading your statements for a handful of specific signals: consistent monthly deposits (steady revenue beats erratic spikes), a healthy average daily balance, few or no NSF events, few or no negative-balance days, and how many existing advance or loan payments are already coming out of the account.
This is also why the statements must be complete. Send every page of each month, including the pages that look blank. Missing pages are the single most common reason a file stalls — the underwriter cannot verify the statement is complete and unaltered, so the file waits.
Documents That May Be Requested for Larger or Conditional Files
For larger funding amounts, or when the statements raise questions, a funder may also ask for: your most recent business tax return, a year-to-date profit and loss statement, statements for any other business bank accounts you use (underwriters can usually see transfers to accounts you did not disclose), and payoff letters or current balances for any existing advances or business loans.
If you have existing MCA positions, disclosing them upfront — with balances — is always faster than having the underwriter find the payments on your statements. Undisclosed positions are one of the most common reasons approvals get withdrawn.

Apply NowCommon Document Mistakes That Delay Funding
Sending screenshots instead of statements. A screenshot of your online banking balance is not a bank statement. Download the official PDF statement from your bank's website for each month.
Password-protected PDFs. If your bank sends statements with a password, remove it or include the password with your submission — a locked file cannot be reviewed.
Photos of paper statements. Photographed or scanned pages can be unreadable and often cannot be verified. Always send the original PDF where possible.
Submitting a personal account. Funding is disbursed to and repaid from a business checking account. If you run revenue through a personal account, open a business account before applying.
Hiding other bank accounts. If your business operates across two or three accounts, send statements for all of them. Partial statements make your revenue look weaker than it is and can trigger a decline that a complete file would have avoided.
How to Send Documents So Your File Moves Fast
Send everything at once. A complete file — application, 3–4 months of statements, ID, and voided check — can typically be reviewed the same day. A file that arrives in pieces over several days restarts the review each time.
Use the secure upload link your funding desk provides rather than email attachments where possible. It keeps your documents tied to your file and avoids size limits. At Workable Funding, once your file is complete, a specialist reviews it and comes back with an offer structured to your business — often the same day.
That is the whole checklist: application, 3–4 months of business bank statements, photo ID, and a voided check — with tax returns or payoff letters only for larger or conditional files. Gather the core four and apply with Workable Funding in 2 minutes; a specialist will review your file the same day.
